We Make Opera Popular in Taos
Prior to the MET Live in HD Broadcast at the Taos Center for the Arts, the Taos Opera Guild will host a Preview Breakfast at Doc Martin's restaurant in the Taos Inn. After enjoying a Doc Martin's breakfast at your own expense, there will be a preview talk. The preview, delivered by Bob Parker, is an ideal introduction to the history of the opera, the current production and provides an opportunity to ask questions. This would be the perfect primer for an opera novice, so all who are interested are encouraged to come for breakfast, the preview or both!
Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts Michael Mayer's richly textured new production of this Verdi favorite, featuring a dazzling 18th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Florez returns to the Met for the first time in five seasons to sing the role of Alfredo, Violetta's hapless lover. Baritone Quinn Kelsey is Alfredo's father, Germont, who destroys their love.
Runtime is 3 hours 7 minutes including 2 intermissions.
